Planning Application Made For £100m Spango Valley Transformation

Plans for a major mixed-use development on the site of the former IBM facility at Spango Valley, Greenock, have been submitted to Inverclyde Council.

The planning application for the site — which is owned by Greenock businessmen Sandy and James Easdale and Advance Construction — has been prepared and submitted by consultants Barton Willmore.

The application seeks permission in principle for a mixed-use masterplan which would include up to 450 new homes, alongside areas of new employment, leisure, community and retail use.

There would also be a new park-and-ride facility at IBM Rail Halt, which would see the station re-opened to the public, as well as areas of extensive green space, parkland and a network of new paths across the site.

If the general proposals are approved by planners, permission would still be required for detailed aspects of the development.

The project represents a £100million investment in the area, with approximately 130 jobs created through the construction phase and an estimated further 300 jobs upon completion.

Sandy Easdale said:

Spango Valley is one of a number of sites the Easdale family has purchased in recent years through its Arranglen investment company.
